Parents are allowed to assist but not actually fish. The child must be present.A parent can help cast the line or assist in reeling in a caught fish. The derby reserves the right to decide if a parent is assisting too much, often resulting in a warning first. Anna began helping with the Fishing Derby many years ago and has been here ever since. Her commitment to the derby allowed this Shawneeland tradition to vibrantly continue to grow, welcoming new generations from previous anglers. Anna has seen her own generations cast their own luck in the ponds. In 2023, a pine tree was planted near the ponds in honor of her devotion to the families of the derby
Penny volunteered at the Shawneeland Fishing Derby for many years. You could often find her helping check in fish, sharing a good laugh with derby participants, and helping young anglers connect with the sport of fishing.
Sadly, she passed away in 2025. Her contribution to the youth of our community will be felt for many, many years.
